A very popular and fruity frozen rum concoction. Can be made with frozen strawberries, but we like to use the nice fresh ripe ones. Here’s our version of this summery classic.

O.K. we admit it – we are just crazy about beaches. Something about the beautiful blue water and creamy white sand absolutely soothes our souls. We’ve been lucky to have seen some amazing beaches in our travels and this is one of the top on our list.
Getting there:If you don’t like deserted beaches, with miles of undisturbed sugar soft sand, you should probably not read any further. We visited this one, Pumpkin Bluff Beach on North Caicos three times during our stay on the island, never saw another person – and LOVED the solitude…
Pumpkin Bluff was not the easiest beach to find on North Caicos – perhaps the reason it was so isolated. In fact, we never saw a sign leading to Pumpkin Bluff and originally called it Shipwreck Beach because of the freighter shipwreckedjust off the reef. It wasn’t until we returned home and located the beach on a map that we realized the name was Pumpkin Bluff. Still think we like Shipwreck Beach better!
We’d recommend just getting a good map and exploring until you find it – it’s well worth it. Three Mary Cays on the right in the distance is a great place to snorkel. Pumpkin Bluff has very long expanse of beautiful white, soft sand and the water is shallow and clear for a long way out. The weather was calm and warm while we were in North Caicos and the swimming (and floating) were great!
The Rum Therapy gang enjoying the beach all to ourselves…
Amenities: none :)
Recommended for: swimming, anyone that enjoys a quiet beach experience. Take a picnic and your favorite rum drinks and enjoy the solitude.
Whether you just want to relax on the beach with your toes in the sand while sipping on your favorite beverage or to enjoy some tapas while watching the sun set over the bay, Calmos Cafe has you covered.
Located right on the beach on the French side in Grand Case, St. Martin, Calmos Cafe serves everything from fine wines to tropical rum concoctionsand tasty fresh, local food to go with it.
We enjoyed some tapas along with a frozen rum drink called the Calmos (with peach and mango) and a Rhum Runner, all of which were excellent, but even more so as we enjoyed them while sitting just inches from the water while watching the sun set…
The atmosphere is warm and quiet most nights, but if you’re looking for more excitement, plan to visit on the nights they have a live salsa or reggae band.
Their motto: C’est La Vie – That’s life!
We got there early one evening and it was relatively uncrowded, but as the evening wore on, more and more people arrived snapping up all the tables and seats by the shoreline.
And why not. With good food and drinks and a view like this…
So, if you’re looking for a place to enjoy some rum with a view while on St. Martin, Calmos Cafe will serve up that and much, much more.

Several years ago we had the opportunity to stay at a beautiful villa named the Limin’ House on a hill overlooking Soper’s Hole in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Unfortunately Tortola was hit hard by the hurricanes of 2017 and the Limin’ House was not spared. During our recent visit to Tortola, we had the chance to stop by the Limin’ House to get a tour of the remodeled villa and talk to owner Susan McDavit. The Limin’ House is looking great again and ready for your next stay on Tortola!
Original post from April 2013 Located high on a hill overlooking Soper’s Hole in West End Tortola, this beautiful Villa is aptly named. We enjoyed a short stay at the Limin’ House during our visit to Tortola last fall and enjoyed every limin’ minute of it.
According to a definition given on The Limin’ House website, the word limin’, when used as a Caribbean verb means “To relieve from attention or effort; relax”.
From the moment you arrive, you know this place will be something special.

The Limin’ House has 4 very private bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and sleeps 10, making it an ideal getaway for families as well as up to 4 couples. All bedrooms are air conditioned and have their own private balcony or patio.

Oh my gosh. Rum and root beer. Yum. We’ve been wanting to try rum and root beer in a root beer float, and just happened to have the time (and ingredients) to try it out last weekend. Well I’m pleased (and a bit dismayed, ’cause we’ve gained a pound or two while experimenting) to announce that we’ve come up with an amazing, stellar and incredible combination for this very adult version of a Root Beer Float. Hope you enjoy it – just remember, although big on taste, it’s unfortunately not short on calories! (but who’s counting….)

Located on idyllic Meads Bay, Anguilla, a colorful establishment called Blanchards Beach Shack doles out scrumptious food and drinks for those enjoying some time in the beautiful sand and turquoise water.
Blanchards Beach Shack is located next door to Blanchards Restaurant, undoubtedly one of the finest restaurants on Anguilla. Both are owned by Bob and Melinda Blanchard who are originally from Vermont and New York. They are entrepreneurs who have successfully started a number of businesses, and one day decided to sell everything, move to Anguilla and open a restaurant. They’ve written a book about their adventure entitled A Trip to the Beach: Living on Island Time in the Caribbean, which from all accounts, is an entertaining and enlightening account of the joys and challenges of selling it all and moving to a tropical island.
Blanchards Beach Shack opened in 2011, and in Bob and Melinda’s words, “On an island known for its expensive restaurants, we offer a delicious alternative in a casual, picture-postcard setting.”
We ordered a couple of drinks, an M.B.L.T and a Cheeseburger (see the menu here) and enjoyed to beautiful Caribbean colors before us.
After enjoying our meal, we grabbed our beverages and headed for the beach.
Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent, or…
…you can just plop in the sugar soft sand, like we did.
Stunningly beautiful beach and great food and drinks – what’s not to like about Blanchard’s Beach Shack. Hope to be back soon…
Mopion, a tiny island close to Petit St. Vincent, could really be considered just a sandbar.
This perfect little stretch of white sand surrounded by crystal clear, blue water is ever changing with the weather and takes all of 5 minutes to walk around – if you walk sloooowly…. There is one thatched umbrella on Mopion, maintained by the nearby Petit St. Vincent Resort, and it’s decorated with the names of those lucky enough to have visited.
It’s not easy to get to Mopion, but well worth it if visiting St. Vincent and the Grenadines. If you’re sailing the Grenadines, consider making a stop if close to Union Island or Tobago Cays. Guests of Petit St. Vincent Resort and Palm Island Resort can get a ride over to Mopion for a visit.
What do you do on a deserted island for a day? Anything you want.
