Rum Infused Coffee by Fire Dept. Coffee

Yesterday we received a special delivery of coffee from Fire Dept. Coffee, a veteran-owned business dedicated to providing great-tasting coffee to people everywhere. They included a package of Medium Roast and one of their signature spirit-infused roasts, the Rum Infused Coffee. We checked out their website to find out more and discovered that every order is freshly roasted in Rockford, Illinois, by a dedicated team of firefighters, first responders, and coffee connoisseurs.

Inspired by the vital role that coffee plays in helping firefighters stay alert and energized through long shifts, Fire Dept. Coffee was founded in 2016. Founder and CEO Luke Schneider is a full-time firefighter/paramedic and a U.S. Navy veteran who teamed up with firefighter/paramedic Jason Patton who is also a full-time firefighter and VP for Fire Department Coffee.

Fire Department Coffee is run by active and retired firefighters, including their operations officer and chief coffee roaster. They provide a great selection of flavors and roasts, including the standard light, medium and dark, as well as specialty flavors like Donut Shop Coffee, Christmas Blend and their popular Spirit Infusions. The Spirit Infusions include not only rum, but tequila, bourbon and whiskey as well. What a great gift idea for spirit and coffee lovers!

Fire Dept. Coffee also supports heroes in need through the Fire Dept. Coffee Foundation. Ten percent of net proceeds are donated to help provide essential resources and assistance to first responders who have been injured on the job, mentally or physically, or who are facing other serious health challenges.

We enjoyed our first cup of Rum Infused Coffee this morning. In the process of infusing the coffee beans, the alcohol is cooked out, but leaves the subtle and sweet flavor of real spirits. The result is non-alcoholic, so it can be enjoyed at any time. With our second cup, we tried adding a splash of rum cream – also delicious!

24 Days of Rum – the Original Rum Calendar

A special thanks to Glenn for allowing us to review the concept, packaging and contents of this product. We enjoyed the “research” immensely.

Imagine having the opportunity to sample rum from 24 different countries, compare tasting notes and get details about each of the rums including the type of still used, the country it’s from, alcohol content, and age. A rum lover’s dream…

Well, that’s exactly what’s available in a product from 1423 World Class Spirits called 24 Days of Rum – the Original Rum Calendar.

Fashioned after an advent or Christmas countdown calendar, this unique package includes two tasting glasses, 24-50ml bottles of rum, some well known, others unknown gems, and two tasting note books to document your findings and make comparisons. Plus, after sampling each offering, you can go to the 24 Days of Rum website and find additional details about each of the producing rum companies and their rum.

The package is a treat in and of itself; black with silver lettering and just enough information to make you want to open it immediately. Inside you will find 2 compartments at the top of the box with the tasting glasses and 24 numbered compartments below containing the rum samples. Also inside – two tasting books. It’s almost like a private rum class in a box!

1423 has released a new 24 Days of Rum Calendar for the last several years; each new release features a different assortment of rums. 1423 World Class Spirits is based in Denmark, so it is already available in many European countries, but this year marks its first venture into the US markets. Originally, I’m told, it will be available at Lee’s Liquor Stores in Nevada by the end of October with a retail price of $99 – $109. As we hear of additional US and Canadian distribution outlets, we’ll update the information here.

Everything from the concept to the packaging in the 24 Days of Rum Original Rum Calendar is first class and is sure to delight anyone who loves rum, from connoisseur’s to those who just want to explore the delicious spirit.

If you’re fortunate enough to be able to get to Lee’s and pick up one this season, you might as well pick up a couple; one for you and one as a gift for a lucky rum lover on your “very nice” list.
