Dark and Spooky

A Halloween version of the Dark and Stormy! BOO!
Course: Drinks
Servings: 1

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Dip the rim of a tall glass in water and then dip it in black sanding sugar.
  • Fill the glass with ice, add 4-5 oz ginger beer and top with the rum.
  • Add a black gummy spider, a straw with ghosts or other Halloween themed garnishes.

BOOzy Pumpkin Shake

We saw this recipe on a recent episode of The Chew and knew we had to give it a try. Let’s just say – IT’S DELICIOUS! A light pumpkin taste combined with the spiced rum and pumpkin pie spice…

"BOO"zy Pumpkin Shake

  • Add all ingredients except the dark rum floater to the blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour into individual cups, sprinkle with a little pumpkin pie spice and add a dark rum floater, if desired.

Spooky Rum Punch

Bloody good and easy to make, this deep red concoction will have your guests screaming with delight.

Halloween is just around the corner and we seem to get a lot of requests for rum themed Halloween cocktails. We ran across this one recently and set out to give it a try. After a bit of searching, were able to find the black sanding sugar, but if you have trouble finding it, you can easily make your own using this recipe. The black licorice strings were harder to find, and although a black licorice spider looks really cool (and is edible!) we opted for a plastic one that we dangled from a bamboo pick.

Optionally, you can float some dark rum on the top, which sounds cool, but ours just kept blending with the rest of the cocktail, so we ended up just adding 2 oz. of gold rum and foregoing the dark rum floater.

Spooky Rum Punch

Tropical Rum Punch, only spookier!!
Course: Drinks
Servings: 1

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Pour the black sanding sugar on a flat plate.
  • Rub the lime wedge on the rim of a cocktail glass, then dip in the black sugar to coat.
  • In a cocktail shaker, add ice, light rum, lime juice, simple syrup and pomegranate juice.
  • Shake about 30 seconds until chilled, then pour into the sugar rimmed glass over ice. Enjoy!!

Notes

A Few Fun Options:
1. Use black string licorice to make a spider garnish!
2. Leave room at the top. Gently pour the dark rum on the top so that it floats.
Mmmm…spooky AND  good!

The Slimer

Still looking for a Halloween cocktail that you can serve when you have friends for dinner…er…I mean have friends over for dinner? (insert evil laugh…) You might enjoy this one called The Slimer. Now for those of  you who saw the original Ghostbusters movie from 1984, you probably will recall the cute little green thing made of ectoplasm who left a trail of slime everywhere he went. Anyway – this cocktail may be green, but it ain’t too slimy – thank goodness.

So – mix yourself up a batch this Halloween and prepare to be slimed (or to perhaps get slimed if you drink too many?)
