Coconut Bar, Young Island Resort

I was looking at some FB pics the other day and saw a picture of a bar that looked very familiar. As I read on, I realized that we had visited the bar a number of years back and had completely forgotten.

The name of the bar is Coconut Bar and it’s a swim up bar in the water just off of Young Island Resort, which is a private resort/island just off the coast of St. Vincent. I looked through our archives of pictures from past trips and found it.

Located just a few strokes away from the beach, Coconut Bar had a good selection of rum cocktails as well as good cold Hairouns (St. Vincent beer).

We were ready to embark on a week long sail through the Grenadines and our boat was anchored on the southeast side of St. Vincent at the Young Island Cut. While waiting to board, we were told that we might enjoy taking the free water taxi over to Young Island and enjoying a bit of sunbathing and a beverage.

The island itself looked like a tropical rainforest with lush foliage and flowers everywhere.
The beach had a selection of comfortable lounge chairs and hammocks and we enjoyed the afternoon lounging in the sunshine while watching the boats move in and out of the Cut and looking across at beautiful St. Vincent….

And the best part? When we got a little too warm (or thirsty!) we just took a short swim over to the Coconut Bar to chat with the bartender and enjoy another beverage!

Mopion, St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Mopion, a tiny island close to Petit St. Vincent, could really be considered just a sandbar.

This perfect little stretch of white sand surrounded by crystal clear, blue water is ever changing with the weather and takes all of 5 minutes to walk around – if you walk sloooowly…. There is one thatched umbrella on Mopion, maintained by the nearby Petit St. Vincent Resort, and it’s decorated with the names of those lucky enough to have visited.

It’s not easy to get to Mopion, but well worth it if visiting St. Vincent and the Grenadines. If you’re sailing the Grenadines, consider making a stop if close to Union Island or Tobago Cays. Guests of Petit St. Vincent Resort and Palm Island Resort can get a ride over to Mopion for a visit.

What do you do on a deserted island for a day? Anything you want.

1. Snorkel

2. Float in the crystal clear water

3. Enjoy a picnic

4. Take a nap under the thatched umbrella

5. Listen to the sound of the waves (or tunes from The Ultimate Rum Therapy Playlist!)

6. BYOBB – Bring Your Own Beach Bar and name it after yourself! (Guess what we named ours?)

7. Absolutely nothing….just enjoy your time on this tropical beach paradise…

Whatever Mopion is – an island, a beach or just a little sandbar in the middle of the ocean, Mopion was ours for a day…

Island Windjammers

And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by….

For those of you that have followed us for a while, you know that not only do we love beautiful tropical beaches, island vacations and rum, we have also grown to love sailing…so, when we got an invitation to participate in a week long sail on the Tall Ship Diamant through Island Windjammers, we jumped on it! The Diamant sails from Grenada through the Grenadine Islands on a 6 day sail for most of the year, but also offers several longer cruises.

The Diamant has 6 cabins for 12 guests and a crew of 6. Meals and most beverages are included – and believe me, you are well fed! During our 6 day sail, we covered 144 miles and saw 9 different islands – some of them completely uninhabited. The sailing was incredible, the food was amazing and the sights were…well, indescribable.

Every evening during Happy Hour, Brandon served up the infamous Diamant Rum Swizzles (or Sweezles as Capt. Nervo calls them). I asked for Brandon’s recipe and he said, oh, just a bit of this juice and that juice and some rum. Hmmm…code for TOP SECRET RECIPE?? Anyway – they’re delicious!

One last day of sun, sand and snorkeling on beautiful Sandy Island. We look pretty stressed, huh?

One last sunny sail back to the island of Grenada. Great adventure, great time.
